Bicycle safety tips for the summer in Georgia

On Behalf of | Jun 1, 2018 | Wrongful Death |

With the summer rapidly approaching in Georgia, it’s time to take a look at some important bicycle safety tips. If you enjoy going for a nice bike ride in the Cumming area you will want to take as many safety precautions as possible. Avoiding accidents with motor vehicles is important, especially since you are afforded no protection when on a bike like you would have inside a car.

All bicycle riders, no matter their age, should wear a helmet on every ride. You might not like the way it looks but it could very well save your life one day. A helmet will protect your head from hitting the concrete, pavement or other object should you be involved in an accident.

Bicycle riders should always ride with the flow of vehicular traffic and not against it. This makes it easier for vehicles to see you and to make turns. When riding with traffic you won’t have to turn against traffic to go to another street.

When riding your bike you should wear reflective apparel, even during daylight hours. Reflective apparel includes your helmet, jacket, shirt and even shoes. Do everything possible to get motorists to see you.

If you must ride at night your bicycle should be equipped with a headlight and a flashing red light in the rear. These lights will help motorists spot you from a distance, giving them plenty of time to maneuver around you safely.

Bicycle safety is important for not just those who ride bikes but also drivers in Cumming, Georgia. When you ride safely, which includes following the rules of the road, you should be able to avoid an accident that can lead to wrongful death.
