Contract workers for film arrested on drug charges in Cumming

In Cumming and throughout Georgia, there are many film projects that use the local sights as a setting. This is a positive for the state as it provides jobs and brings much-needed income for various entities. Unfortunately, though, one such project ended early for some of those working on it due to criminal charges.

Workers for a catering service on the set of a movie were arrested at a local high school. They are accused of possessing significant amounts of methamphetamine in their vehicle. The drugs were found by a K9 unit. The local sheriff's office stated they received information from a separate law enforcement entity that the workers might have drugs.

The vehicle was in the parking lot of the high school. Three people were inside. The dog found the drugs, and the workers were arrested. They face drug trafficking charges. The workers did not have weapons and never went into the school. The investigation is continuing.

Drug charges can have severe ramifications in any context, but when people are facing drug trafficking charges, it is substantially worse. The state takes drug offenses seriously and if the activities are conducted near a school, the allegations and potential penalties can be much worse. A conviction can take away a person's freedom, result in hefty fines and cause problems for them as they try to get jobs even after they have completed their sentence. There are avenues of defense against these charges such as calling the law enforcement tactics into question, arguing that the evidence is tainted or insufficient, or that a person was an innocent bystander caught up in an unfortunate situation.

Whether the drug charges are related to purchasing for individual use, low-level sales, drug trafficking or distribution, those arrested must consider their alternatives for a defense. A law firm experienced in providing a defense of charges for methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, prescriptions drugs and marijuana should be called for advice and help to begin combating the allegations.
