Being charged with driving under the influence in Georgia carries with it serious consequences if there is a conviction. People’s lives can be turned upside down because of a DUI charge and it is made worse when there are other allegations that accompany it. If a person is in a motor vehicle accident in which others are injured and then flees the scene, there will be a serious set of charges lodged. Regardless of the circumstances, those who are accused of these acts must remember that they have rights and contact a law firm that specializes in DUI and criminal defense.

A two-vehicle crash led to a 56-year-old man’s arrest. The accident happened in the evening at around 9 p.m. According to the investigation, the man was driving a 2004 Cadillac CTS. He ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle, a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The second vehicle was T-boned. The Cruiser ran on the sidewalk. The people inside, a 43-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, were freed from the vehicle by emergency responders. They were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac was found not far from the accident. Officers stated they smelled alcohol. He stated that he had been drinking beer. He was not given field sobriety tests and refused a breath test. Blood was taken to determine his blood-alcohol concentration. He was arrested and charged with numerous crimes including a felony for the crash and leaving the scene. He was also cited for the stop sign violation and faces DUI charges. The case is still being investigated.

Being charged with DUI can result in the loss of driving privileges, hefty fines and even jail. If there is a motor vehicle accident and people are injured, the charges can rise significantly. It is even worse if the driver flees. Although these allegations are serious, that does not mean that all is lost. There could be avenues to try and have some of the charges reduced or dismissed outright. Depending on the case, there might be a way to avoid the worst possible penalties. No matter what, it is crucial to have legal advice.

An alleged drunk driver was said to have gone through a stop sign and T-boned another vehicle, injuring its occupants. The man was later arrested on a slew of charges related to the crash. As the case moves forward, the man must protect himself by calling a law firm with experience in DUI defense. This is the first step he should take before doing anything else.
