Emory professor sentenced for child pornography

On Behalf of | Mar 17, 2017 | Sex Crimes |

Sex crime charges can derail your entire life and dismantle your career, even after you serve a prison sentence or pay fines. The social stigma of sex crime charges is often so strong that simply being charged can present great difficulties to a defendant. A former professor at Emory University will face all these difficulties and more after being sentenced to serve more than six years of jail time and pay thousands of dollars in fines.

The former professor was served sex crime charges for allegedly using the university’s internet connection to access child pornography on a server in Switzerland. The trouble arose when Swiss law enforcement seized the server holding the illegal pictures and began sorting through the login information for the server. The login information indicated that someone had used the university’s wi-fi to access the server.

Authorities here in the states followed the lead from the Swiss and visited the professor in his office at Emory. While there, they found illegal images on the man’s laptop computer, as well as on his external hard drive. Authorities followed the professor to his home and found that his home computer had internet search history that they believed suggested child pornography may have been on his home computer as well.

Even for those who have committed a sex crime, it is crucial to secure the best defense that they can. The aftermath of a sex crime conviction can make it nearly impossible to choose a different path and make amends for any mistakes you may have made in the past. With the representation of an experienced attorney, you can ensure that your rights remain protected and that your case is heard fairly.
