Which city has the best — and worst — drivers?

On Behalf of | Sep 13, 2016 | Car Accidents |

Earlier this summer, insurance giant Allstate released its annual Best Drivers Report, which ranked 200 U.S. cities according to such factors as frequency between claims filed and the frequency with which residents slammed on their brakes to avoid an accident.

Taking the top spots were Brownsville, Texas, Kansas City, Kansas, Madison, Wisconsin, Cape Coral, Florida, and Boise, Idaho, respectively. As for cities here in Georgia, Augusta came in at number 60, while Savannah came in at number 136 and Atlanta at number 184.

In recent developments, Allstate has now released an updated version of its 2016 Best Drivers Report, which accounts for such new factors as population density and suburban data. Once again, there were some surprises.

For example, there was some shifting among the top spots, meaning the cities with the safest drivers:

  • Madison, Wisconsin (1)
  • Brownsville, Texas (2)
  • Boise, Idaho (3)
  • New York City, New York (4)
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin (5)

On the other end of the spectrum, the cities that earned the dubious distinction of technically having the most unsafe drivers included:

  • Boston, Massachusetts (200)
  • Worcester, Massachusetts (199)
  • Baltimore, Maryland (198)
  • Washington, D.C. (197)
  • Springfield, Massachusetts (196)

While it would appear that Massachusetts was a somewhat unsafe location to drive, the question naturally arises as to how cities here in Georgia fared in the updated report.

Indeed, it would appear that some plummeted rather far in the rankings:

  • Atlanta (191)
  • Savannah (172)
  • Columbus (166)
  • Augusta (149)

More than anything, this report — while undoubtedly interesting reading and prime debate material for family and friends — serves to underscore how car accidents can occur at any time, in any place and under any circumstances. In other words, no one is immune from the danger posed by negligent motorists.

However, in the event you or a loved one are injured in a car crash caused by the recklessness of another, it’s imperative to consider speaking with a skilled legal professional who can seek justice on your behalf as soon as possible.
